Libya: Education Minister Musa al-Muqarif was detained for failing to provide free textbooks to schools.

BaaghiTV: According to foreign media, students in Libyan schools are facing severe shortage of textbooks due to which the Minister of Education Musa Al-Muqarif was arrested on the charge of negligence.

According to the report, the Libyan Ministry of Education had promised to provide textbooks free of charge, which did not materialize, leading to fears that the curriculum would not be completed, leaving students and parents fearful of losing the school year.

Education Minister Musa al-Muqarif was detained for failing to provide free textbooks, while several other officials, including the planning minister, are expected to be arrested.

The prosecution told the court that the education minister had been arrested for negligence and was being interrogated to determine the contract and reasons for printing the textbooks. It should be noted that since the end of Muammar Gaddafi’s era, the facility of providing free textbooks to every student at the beginning of the academic year has been depleted and students are forced to study by getting photocopied books.
