Mehbooba Mufti Exposes Indian Reign of Terror in Occupied Kashmir, Hails Peace in Azad Kashmir

IIOJK: In a scathing rebuke to the Indian occupation regime, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has laid bare the atmosphere of fear and repression gripping Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), while contrasting it with the relative peace and normalcy prevailing in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Addressing a gathering in Srinagar, Mufti declared that people in Indian-held Kashmir are living under constant dread due to draconian Indian laws like the Public Safety Act (PSA) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). “There is fear on this side. People are being arbitrarily detained. On the other side in AJK, there is peace. People sleep without fear,” she stated, demanding the immediate release of all political prisoners.

The remarks have ignited fierce debate, especially as they expose the brutal reality of Indian rule in occupied Kashmir, where thousands continue to languish in jails without trial, and democratic voices are systematically silenced through black laws and military crackdowns.

Social media users, have amplified Mufti’s statement to highlight the stark difference: while Azad Kashmir grapples with routine local issues and protests, Indian-occupied Kashmir remains under a suffocating military occupation marked by pellet guns, enforced disappearances, and mass detentions since the illegal abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Despite India’s claims of “normalcy,” the ground reality in IIOJK tells a different story, daily humiliation, communication blackouts, and heavy militarization that has turned the valley into an open-air prison. In contrast, AJK continues to enjoy far greater freedoms, even amid occasional protests over local governance and economic matters.

Mehbooba Mufti’s bold statement serves as a timely reminder of India’s failed policies in Kashmir. As the world watches, the contrast between peace on the Pakistani side and continued oppression under Indian occupation grows harder for New Delhi to hide.

Tensions are rising ahead of the June 9 mobilization, with many Kashmiris on both sides hoping that genuine dialogue and an end to Indian atrocities can finally pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
