New prosecution committee formed on Priyantha Kumara murder case
Mar 1, 2022: A new prosecution committee has been formed for the murder of Sri Lankan citizen Priyantha Kumara in Sialkot.
According to a report by BaaghiTV, the Secretary Prosecution says that the purpose of dissolving the old committee following the murder case of Priyantha Kumara and forming a new committee is to provide the best legal assistance in the case.
Prosecution Secretary Nadeem Sarwer has constituted a new prosecution committee in order to ensure high quality prosecution for trial court for Sialkot incident in which Sri Lankan Manager Priyantha Kumara was killed by a frenzied mob.
The Secretary Prosecution said that the five members of the new committee comprising senior and experienced prosecutors would brief the committee on all the proceedings of the case. On the other hand, in the Priyantha Kumara murder case in Gujranwala Anti-Terrorism Court, the investigating officer asked for time to submit the challan. The court ordered to submit the challan of the case at the next hearing on March 14.
New prosecution committee includes Abdul Rauf Wattoo, Asmatullah Khan, Deputy Prosecutor General Zahid Sarfraz Khan and Umer Farooq, Assistant District Public Prosecutor. The committee shall submit report on each date of hearing of the case to secretary prosecution and Punjab prosecutor general. The new committee has started performing duties led by the secretary prosecution.
It may be recalled that in December last year, a Sri Lankan manager of a private factory in Sialkot was killed by factory workers. He ran to the upper floor but was chased by the factory workers, surrounded on the roof and was beaten to death. The factory guards failed to stop the inhumane bloody game, but the factory workers beat him with sticks and bodily blows then tried to set fire to his body.
