Pakistan beat West Indies by nine runs in second T20I

Dec 14, 2021: Hosts Pakistan beat West Indies by nine runs in the second T20 International in Karachi on Tuesday to take an unbeaten 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

After winning the toss, Pakistan scored 172-8 in their 20 overs, with Mohammad Rizwan (38), Iftikhar Ahmed (32) and Haider Ali (31) leading the way.

At the start of the first innings in the second match of the T20 International played at the National Stadium in Karachi, West Indies sent  Pakistani captain batsman Babar Azam back to the pavilion in the third over. Meanwhile, Fakhr Zaman was also dismissed by Nicholas Pooran in the 5th over when the team had managed to score 50 runs on the scoreboard. Meanwhile, when the team managed to score only 86 runs in the 12th over, Mohammad Rizwan was also bowled after scoring 38 runs in the total score.

Pakistan also lost two more wickets, Mohammad Nawaz and Haider Ali, after scoring a total of 111 runs in the 15th over.

By the 20th over, eight of Pakistan’s wickets had fallen as they put a total of 172 runs on the scoreboard.

In response to a target of 179, West Indies rode on a career-best 67 by Brenden King while Romario Shepherd hit a 19-ball 35 not out but the tourists were stopped short of the winning target by Shaheen Shah Afridi who finished with 3-26.

Pakistan won the first match by 63 runs. The third and final match is on Thursday, also in Karachi.

Yesterday, in the first match, Windies’ captain Nicholas Pooran won the toss and put Pakistan in to bat first. Despite losing two important wickets early on followed by intermittent dismissals of the batsmen, Pakistan were able to put up an impressive 200-6 total on the board.
