The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday said that the Pakistan Navy’s Anti-Submarine Warfare Unit has foiled another attempt by a submarine of the Indian navy to enter the territorial waters.

According to the details, the military’s media affairs wing said that Pakistan Navy (PN) intercepted and tracked the latest Kalvari class submarine on March 1, 2022 that was trying to enter Pakistani waters.

“The recent incident being the fourth detection in last 5 years is reflection of Pakistan Navy’s competence & resolve to defend maritime frontiers of Pakistan,” the ISPR tweet said, sharing video footage of the submarine.

In a detailed statement, Director General (DG) ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar said that the Indian Navy had deployed its submarine against Pakistan with “ulterior motives”.

“However, yet again through continuous vigilance and professionalism, Pakistan Navy has foiled [the] Indian submarine’s attempt of entering into Pakistani waters,” he said.

“During prevailing security environment and ongoing PN Exercise SEASPARK-22, the possibility of Indian unit lurking into Pakistan maritime zone for reconnaissance and gathering information on exercise was anticipated. Therefore, strict monitoring watch and stringent vigilance procedures were enforced. Resultantly, PN anti-submarine warfare unit took the lead and prematurely intercepted and tracked the latest Indian submarine Kalvari on March 1,” DG ISPR added.

It may be recalled that in October last year, the Pakistan Navy, while demonstrating professionalism, had foiled an attempt by an Indian submarine to enter Pakistani waters. The incident took place on October 16, confirmed the ISPR, adding that the Indian naval submarine had been prematurely detected and tracked by the PN Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft.

Earlier, in March 2019, the PN tracked down an Indian submarine in its maritime zone and prevented it from entering.
