Pakistan’s electronic media regulator has taken swift action following widespread public outrage over a viral clip from a morning show hosted by actress and presenter Fiza Ali.

During a live broadcast on a local television channel, Fiza Ali’s husband lifted her onto his shoulders in a playful gesture that aired during family viewing hours. The moment, which occurred in the presence of their young daughter, quickly sparked intense criticism on social media for being inappropriate and crossing ethical boundaries on national television.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued a show-cause notice to the channel, demanding an explanation for airing content that allegedly violated broadcast standards, decency guidelines, and professional ethics. The regulator has asked the channel to justify why action should not be taken against it.

Public reaction has been strong, with many viewers describing the incident as “shameful,” “vulgar,” and unsuitable for a morning family programme. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari strongly condemned the on-air conduct, calling it extremely regrettable and urging PEMRA to uphold cultural and broadcast standards. Several political figures and social media users also demanded strict regulatory intervention, accusing the show of resorting to sensationalism for higher ratings.

Fiza Ali later defended the clip, describing it as a spontaneous and happy family moment taken out of context. She expressed surprise at the level of backlash and maintained that it was light-hearted interaction involving her husband and daughter.

PEMRA has faced past criticism regarding selective enforcement of rules, with some commentators highlighting concerns about consistency in handling different types of broadcast content.
