PMML Urges Strict Enforcement of Official LPG and Food Prices

LAHORE: Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML) Secretary General Saifullah Qasuri has expressed concern over the sale of LPG, vegetables and fruits at prices significantly above official rates, saying consumers are facing increasing financial pressure while the authorities have failed to enforce price control regulations.
In a statement, Qasuri said LPG, officially priced at Rs241 per kilogram, is being sold in many areas for Rs400 to Rs450 per kilogram. He added that vegetables and fruits are also being sold well above the government-notified rates, placing an additional burden on households already struggling with rising inflation.
He said the continuous increase in petroleum prices has significantly reduced the purchasing power of ordinary citizens. As a result, even essential daily-use items have become increasingly unaffordable for low and middle-income families, making it difficult for many households to manage their monthly expenses.
Qasuri said the failure to enforce officially notified prices has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the price control mechanism and the performance of the district administration. He alleged that profiteers are openly overcharging consumers while weak enforcement has allowed such practices to continue unchecked.
He urged the government to ensure strict implementation of official prices for LPG, vegetables and fruits across the country. He also called for indiscriminate action against profiteering and effective measures to control inflation and protect consumers from unjustified price hikes.
The PMML leader said timely intervention is essential to provide relief to the public and restore confidence in the government’s price regulation system. He warned that continued inaction could further increase public frustration and economic hardship for ordinary citizens.
