30 Years On, Mass Rape of Kashmiri Women Continues To Remain A Scar

Lahore, 23rd February: 30 years on, the Kashmir mass rape survivors still await justice.

Baaghi TV: The horrific incident of mass rape of Kashmiri women in Kunan and Poshpora villages of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on February 23, 1991, continues to remain a scar on the memory of the international community.

India has employed rape, torture, demeaning treatment and killings of Kashmiri women as instruments of state terrorism in the occupied territory.

To mark this day the Foreign Office released a statement on Tuesday saying, “The incidents of systematic violence and mass rapes in IIOJK have been documented by a number of independent Commissions, human rights organizations, global media and civil society organizations, including the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).”

It further read, “This day should serve as a solemn reminder to the international community of the need to address the systematic violence against women in IIOJK.”

The hashtag #MassRapeOfKashmiriWomen is trending in the topmost slot today on Twitter, the micro-blogging website.

One of the users shared a horrific incident of women being brutally gang-raped by the Indian soldiers:

Someone shared that the ‘Indian forces have sexually assaulted and gang-raped more than 11,000 women in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir during the past three decades, according to a report from a local news outlet, which added that another 2,342 women were martyred as well.’

A Twitterati by the name of Aslam Khawaja disclosed, “The Kunan Poshspora incident occurred on February 23, 1991, when units of the Indian army launched a search and interrogation operation in the village of Kunan Poshpora.”

He further shared:

This is still not the end of the struggle that Kashmiris have to face day in and day out even today. Nothing has changed in IIOK and Kashmiri women are still facing sexual and other atrocities by Indian brutal forces.

Furthermore, these state-sanctioned heinous crimes have further intensified since India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5th August 2019.

The international community must unite to get the Kashmiris what they demand as their basic human right!
