Abu Dhabi Ruling Family Member Sentenced for Child Neglect After Being Found Unconscious in London

Mahrah Al Nahyan, 32, a member of Abu Dhabi’s ruling family by marriage, has been sentenced to a two-year community order after admitting child neglect following an incident in West London in June 2026, when she was found unconscious on a busy street while caring for a barefoot three-year-old child.
Al Nahyan was discovered slumped against railings near an unconscious man, while the toddler was playing unattended with toys, including a scooter and a toy plane, close to moving traffic. Members of the public intervened after becoming concerned for the child’s safety.
The court heard that the child ran towards the road while chasing a piece of paper, prompting further concern among bystanders. Al Nahyan reportedly remained unresponsive for around 30 minutes before regaining consciousness.
When she came around, she reportedly shouted at those who had intervened, asking why they were so concerned and saying words to the effect of, “This is not a slaughterhouse, why do you care so much?”
Police subsequently found drug paraphernalia in her bags, although no illicit substances were recovered. The court heard that she had used cocaine in the days before the incident. Her defence maintained that she had not taken cocaine on the day in question and argued that exhaustion had contributed to the episode.
Following the incident, Al Nahyan entered drug addiction treatment at the Priory Centre in Woking, Surrey, where she has been receiving care.
She was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on or around October 13–14, 2026, to a two-year community order that includes a rehabilitation requirement. The sentence also includes a £5,000 fine and £1,000 in prosecution costs.
During sentencing, the judge highlighted the reckless nature of her conduct and the serious danger the child had faced. The court noted that the situation could have resulted in far more serious consequences had members of the public not intervened.
The court also heard that Al Nahyan receives a monthly allowance of £8,000.
The case has attracted attention because of her connection by marriage to Abu Dhabi’s ruling family, one of the wealthiest ruling families in the world, whose estimated fortune has been reported to exceed £250 billion.
The incident and subsequent court proceedings have been covered by British newspapers, including The Sun and The Times, as well as international media outlets.
