Altaf Hussain’s Mill Hill home targeted by two men in overnight break-in attempt, MQM-London says

MQM founder Altaf Hussain’s north London residence came under threat in the early hours when two men tried to break into the property in Mill Hill, near Edgware.

According to a statement from MQM-London, the incident occurred during the night of 22-23 August 2017 at Hussain’s home on Abbey View. The two individuals, one described as Asian in appearance and the other African, climbed over a neighbour’s wall at around 2am in an apparent attempt to enter the house.

Neighbours were woken by the activity, and Hussain’s personal security guards also became aware of the intrusion. Once spotted, the men fled the scene in a white car. The party reported the matter to the Metropolitan Police, which confirmed receiving a call from the Abbey View address in the early hours and launched an investigation.

MQM-London stated that the episode may have been more than a botched burglary and could have been an attempt to murder or cause physical harm to Hussain. The organisation appealed to then-Prime Minister Theresa May to ensure the perpetrators were brought to justice and to strengthen security around the MQM founder.

Hussain has lived in self-imposed exile in the UK since 1992 and has long resided in the Mill Hill/Edgware area, from where he has directed aspects of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. The property has previously been the subject of police attention in connection with other inquiries, including the investigation into the 2010 murder of senior MQM figure Imran Farooq.
