Asian Athletics Recognises Pakistan Athletics Federation as Sole Body for 14th South Asian Games 2027

Asian Athletics has clarified that the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) is the only recognised body authorised to organise athletics competitions at the 14th South Asian Games 2027, scheduled to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan.

In an official letter dated October 26, 2026, Asian Athletics Secretary General A. Shuggumarran stated that the organisation had learned that the National Olympic Committee of Pakistan had constituted a committee to oversee athletics affairs for the upcoming Games.

The letter clarified that World Athletics and Asian Athletics recognise only one athletics body in Pakistan, the Athletics Federation of Pakistan, headed by Brigadier Wajahat Hussain as President and Colonel Shahjahan Mir as Secretary General.

According to the letter, the federation is duly affiliated with World Athletics, Asian Athletics and the South Asian Athletics Federation.

Asian Athletics further stated that it would communicate and coordinate exclusively with the officially recognised and affiliated athletics body, adding that no other committee or organisation would be recognised for this purpose.

The letter categorically confirmed that the Athletics Federation of Pakistan is the sole body authorised to manage athletics competitions at the 14th South Asian Games 2027 in Islamabad.
