Elon Musk Deletes ‘Vote Red Today’ Post Following Republican Defeat in US Midterm Elections

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has deleted an Election Day post from his X account urging voters to support Republican candidates, following significant Democratic gains in the 2026 US midterm elections.

Musk published the message, stating “Vote red today!”, on November 3, calling on his followers to vote for Republicans. However, the post disappeared from his X timeline on Wednesday as election results indicated a strong performance by Democrats, including victories in key races in Texas, where Musk had invested heavily in supporting Republican candidates.

Several media outlets, including Business Insider and Forbes, reported the deletion. Musk has not publicly explained why he removed the post.

In subsequent posts, Musk adopted a humorous tone, joking that his “election-interfering space lasers didn’t work this time.” He also remarked that placing data centres in space was looking “pretty appealing right now.”

The deletion attracted considerable attention on X, with several accounts sharing screen recordings that purportedly showed the original post disappearing from Musk’s profile. Meanwhile, his other recent posts criticising individual Democratic candidates remained visible.

The development comes after Musk's substantial financial contributions and public campaigning for Republican candidates failed to prevent a strong Democratic performance in the midterm elections, marking a political setback for the billionaire's high-profile involvement in the electoral campaign.
