Explosion Damages Railway Track Near India-Pakistan Border in Rajasthan

India: An explosion was reported near the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district on Tuesday night, damaging a section of railway track on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh railway line.
The blast occurred at around 9:45 pm near 50 GB village, approximately 45 minutes after a passenger train travelling from Anupgarh to Suratgarh had safely passed through the same section.
The suspected explosion damaged two concrete support blocks beneath the railway track, leaving a crater nearly two feet deep. Reports indicated that steel reinforcement rods inside the damaged concrete structures were also exposed.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
Local residents said they heard a loud explosion from a distance of up to 200 metres and rushed towards the railway tracks. Police, railway officials, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), forensic experts and a bomb disposal squad subsequently reached the site to investigate the incident.
Train services between Anupgarh and Suratgarh were suspended for the day as a precautionary measure to allow authorities to inspect the damaged section and ensure railway safety.
Sri Ganganagar Superintendent of Police Harishankar said it was too early to determine whether the damage had been caused by an explosion or some other factor. He added that forensic examination would help establish the exact cause.
The police chief also clarified that no connection had so far been established between the railway incident and the recent recovery of approximately 7.5 kilograms of RDX from the border area.
Authorities are investigating all possible angles, including the possibility of deliberate sabotage targeting railway infrastructure, as the investigation continues.
