Explosions Heard in Riyadh as Saudi Arabia Issues Air-Raid Alert Amid Escalating Houthi Conflict

Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence activated the National Early Warning Platform in Riyadh and nearby Al-Kharj, urging residents to remain indoors, stay away from windows and open areas, and follow official safety instructions. The alert was lifted after authorities announced that the danger had passed.

Journalists from AFP and Reuters reported hearing two explosions in Riyadh shortly after the warning was issued. The incident marks the first reported direct impact on the Saudi capital since the conflict in neighbouring Yemen intensified in July.

The latest alerts come amid a sharp escalation in fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. Reuters reported that Houthi forces have intensified attacks against Saudi cities and energy infrastructure, while Saudi and allied forces have carried out airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen.

Separately, footage circulating on social media has been claimed to show a major fire at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
