Imran Khan’s Sister Noreen Niazi Shifted from Kot Lakhpat Jail to Cardiac Hospital After Heart-Related Complaints

Noreen Niazi, sister of former Pakistani prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was shifted from Kot Lakhpat Jail to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in Lahore after experiencing heart-related problems, chest pain and elevated blood pressure while in detention.
Noreen was transferred to the hospital on Wednesday, October 28, where doctors conducted an initial medical examination, including an ECG and other necessary tests. Reports said she had also complained of a rapid heartbeat and breathing difficulties. Blood tests were reportedly conducted to assess the possibility of a cardiac event, although no heart attack had been confirmed.
Her lawyer, Rana Mudassar Umar, confirmed that she had developed medical complications in jail and was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. According to jail officials, she was experiencing cardiac and blood pressure-related problems and remained under medical observation. Some reports also mentioned the possibility of angioplasty.
Meanwhile, her lawyer and PTI leaders expressed concern that the family had not been informed about her transfer to the hospital. They alleged that family members were denied access to her and were not provided with detailed information about her medical condition. Reports also suggested that the ward where she was being treated had been sealed. PTI demanded proper medical care and immediate access for her family.
On October 29, Prime Minister's Adviser Rana Sanaullah told the Senate that Noreen had been provided with immediate medical facilities and was stable. He said her medical test results were normal and assured lawmakers that he would look into complaints regarding the family's access to her.
Noreen Niazi, along with Imran Khan's other sisters, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, has been under preventive detention at Kot Lakhpat Jail since September 2026 under Section 3 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance, 1960.
Their detention followed PTI's protest plans and preparations for a long march demanding Imran Khan's release. The initial 30-day detention orders were subsequently extended by another 30 days by the Punjab government.
Uzma Khan has also been reported to have a heart condition, and courts had previously issued directions concerning the provision of her medication.
