LK Advani Hospitalised in Delhi with Chest Infection; Condition Stable

India: Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi on Friday evening after complaining of a chest infection.

The 98-year-old leader was brought to the hospital around 7:30 pm and admitted to the pulmonary department. Hospital officials said his condition is stable and he is under close observation by a team of doctors. Medical tests are underway. Some reports indicated he is being treated in the intensive care unit under the supervision of senior neurologist Dr Vinit Suri.

This is the second time Advani has been hospitalised this year. In May 2026, he was admitted to the same hospital for age-related health issues and was discharged after a few days of treatment. He had also been hospitalised in December 2024, when he spent time in the ICU.

Advani, born on November 8, 1927, is one of the founding figures of the BJP and played a key role in the party’s rise as a national political force. He served as Union Home Minister from 1999 to 2004 and as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004. In March 2024, he was conferred the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
