Mob Attacks BSF Personnel in Tripura, Three Injured Including Company Commander

India: Three personnel of India's Border Security Force, including a company commander, were injured after a mob attacked them with sticks and bamboo poles near the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura. The attackers surrounded a BSF vehicle, assaulted the personnel and allegedly attempted to snatch their weapons.
The incident took place in the Ashabari area near Boxanagar in Tripura, involving personnel of the BSF's 49th Battalion and local residents. A video circulating on social media shows a group of people surrounding a BSF vehicle and attacking the personnel. One of the soldiers can also be seen lying on the ground during the assault.
Reports indicate that the incident began at around 10 am when BSF personnel stopped a local youth, identified as Hafizur Rahman, son of Shahjahan Miah, near Natin Bazar Road close to Ashabari Gram Panchayat. The personnel reportedly detained him on suspicion. Local residents alleged that he was assaulted while in custody, resulting in a fracture in his leg.
Following the incident, angry residents, including women, blocked the Ashabari-Rahimpur road and staged a protest, demanding action over the alleged assault on the youth.
The situation escalated when a BSF vehicle carrying Company Commander Rohit, driver Sunil Kumar and personnel Manjeet arrived at the road blockade. The mob allegedly surrounded the vehicle and attacked the three personnel with sticks and bamboo poles. The attackers also reportedly attempted to seize their weapons and damaged the vehicle.
Separate FIRs have reportedly been registered by both sides, while police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Tensions remain in the area following the incident, which has raised fresh concerns over the security of personnel deployed along the India-Bangladesh border.
