PTI Activist and Joint Awami Action Committee Leader Khwaja Inam Mani Arrested Outside Pakistan Consulate in Birmingham

British police have arrested Khwaja Inam Mani, a leader of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) and a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist based in Birmingham, outside the Pakistan Consulate in the city.

The arrest followed a scuffle between two groups outside the consulate during a protest. Members of a rival group reportedly arrived at the scene and began chanting slogans, leading to a confrontation in which one person fell to the ground.

Police subsequently intervened and arrested Mani in connection with the incident. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the clash.

Both individuals involved in the confrontation are reportedly originally from Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Mani was taken to a local police station following his arrest.

The Joint Awami Action Committee, which has organised protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir over electricity tariffs, subsidies and governance issues, was declared a proscribed organisation by the AJK government under the Anti-Terrorism Act earlier in 2026.

The AJK authorities have since taken action against the committee, including sealing its offices, arresting members and imposing restrictions on its leadership. Mani has also participated in protests in the UK in support of the committee and against alleged pressure on the families of its activists in Azad Kashmir.

The incident has drawn attention to continuing political tensions within Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora communities in the United Kingdom, particularly surrounding demonstrations outside Pakistani diplomatic missions.
