Sessions Court Rejects Anchorperson Iqrar-ul-Hassan’s Bail Plea in Alleged Anti-State Content Case

A sessions court in Karachi has rejected the bail application of Pakistani anchorperson Iqrar-ul-Hassan in a case involving the alleged dissemination of anti-state content, dealing another setback to his legal efforts to secure release from custody.

The hearing was held at the East Karachi Sessions Court, where the court announced its decision after hearing the bail application and dismissed the plea.

Following the decision, Advocate Ahmed Masood said the defence would challenge the district court’s ruling before the Sindh High Court. The legal team intends to approach the provincial high court to seek relief against the rejection of bail.

Iqrar-ul-Hassan had moved the sessions court after a magistrate rejected his earlier bail application. The sessions court’s decision means that his request for bail has been turned down at two judicial levels.

The anchorperson is currently in jail on judicial remand in connection with the case.

The case concerns allegations of disseminating anti-state content. However, the rejection of the bail application does not, by itself, constitute a final determination of guilt. The matter may proceed further through the judicial process, while the defence has indicated its intention to challenge the latest decision before the Sindh High Court.
