Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani, Muezzin of Makkah’s Grand Mosque, Passes Away

Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani, a muezzin of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, has died in the early hours of Monday, September 21, 2026. His final call to prayer at Islam’s holiest mosque was the Fajr adhan earlier that morning. Footage of the call circulated widely after news of his death was confirmed by accounts linked to the Two Holy Mosques. Born in Madinah in 1976, Al-Madani grew up in a religious family and was influenced by his grandfather, a memoriser of the Quran. He began calling the adhan at the age of 15 in a neighbourhood mosque in Madinah and later served at other mosques before his appointment as a muezzin of Masjid al-Haram in Ramadan 1439 AH (2018). He was one of about 24 permanent muezzins at the Grand Mosque and was particularly known for the Fajr adhan and the takbirat. The funeral prayer will be held after the Asr prayer on Monday at Masjid al-Haram. He will be buried at Al-Mualla Cemetery in Makkah. Tributes have poured in from those associated with the Two Holy Mosques and from across the Muslim world, remembering his distinctive voice and devoted service.
