US Issues Widespread Security Alerts Across Middle East Amid Iran and Houthi Threats

American diplomatic missions in 12 locations across the Middle East issued coordinated security alerts, urging US citizens to exercise heightened vigilance due to rising regional tensions involving Iran and its proxies.
The alerts cover Israel (including Jerusalem), Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. They warn of a complex security environment and advise Americans to prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions.
The notices specifically cite recent attacks by Iran-supported Houthi forces on Saudi civilian airports and critical infrastructure, which have caused civilian casualties and severe travel problems. Officials note that these hostilities could escalate rapidly beyond Saudi Arabia.
“Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance due to the complex security environment,” the alerts state. They further caution that “Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions.”
In Saudi Arabia, operations at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport remained suspended at the time of the alerts, while airports in Jeddah and Dammam faced delays and cancellations. US government employees in the kingdom require special authorisation to use major airports.
Travellers have been advised to check flight status directly with airlines and airports, monitor official updates, and develop contingency plans. The US Embassy in Jerusalem also recommended knowing the location of nearby shelters and downloading relevant alert applications.
The warnings come against a backdrop of ongoing regional instability, including Houthi strikes and broader concerns over Iranian activities targeting American interests.
