US Military Reportedly Weighs Using ‘Mother of All Bombs’ Against Iranian Energy and Nuclear Sites: CNN

The US military is reportedly considering the possible use of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), widely known as the “Mother of All Bombs,” against Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear sites if President Donald Trump orders a resumption of combat operations, according to a CNN report.
The report suggests that the option could be considered if hostilities resume before or after the US midterm elections. However, the reported consideration of the weapon does not mean that a decision to deploy it has been made.
The GBU-43/B MOAB is the largest non-nuclear bomb in the US military’s arsenal. It weighs approximately 9,800 kilograms and contains around 8,500 kilograms of high explosives, making it one of the most powerful conventional weapons in the American inventory.
The massive bomb was first used in combat by the United States in Afghanistan in 2017, when it was dropped on an Islamic State tunnel complex. It has never been used against Iran.
The possibility of deploying the weapon against Iranian targets has raised questions about its effectiveness, particularly against hardened or deeply buried nuclear facilities. Responses to the social media post expressed scepticism over whether the bomb could successfully destroy such targets.
