Actor Vijay’s TVK Makes Historic Debut; Leads in Over 100 Seats in Tamil Nadu Elections

India: In a seismic shift for Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party, Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), have emerged as the primary challengers in the 2026 Assembly elections. As counting progresses today, early trends show the TVK leading in over 100 constituencies, effectively dismantling the decades-long bipolar dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.

Riding on a massive wave of youth support and a promise of “clean governance,” Vijay’s decision to contest without a major alliance appears to have paid off. The TVK chief is currently leading by a significant margin in both Tiruchirappalli East and Perambur, the two seats he contested.

The TVK is performing exceptionally well in urban centers and among first-time voters, who seem to have pivoted away from traditional Dravidian parties.

With trends suggesting a potential hung assembly or a narrow lead, political analysts suggest Vijay could either lead the next government or dictate its formation.

While the DMK-led alliance maintains a strong presence in its traditional bastions, the AIADMK has seen a sharper decline in seats as TVK captures a significant portion of the anti-incumbency vote.

Vijay, known to his followers as ‘Thalapathy,’ officially launched the party in 2024 with a vision for transparent administration.
