China urges citizens to leave Afghanistan–Tajikistan border areas

China has urged its citizens to leave border areas between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Tajikistan has issued a security advisory urging Chinese citizens and companies to leave border areas between Afghanistan and Tajikistan as soon as possible and to avoid travel to these regions.

According to the statement, due to deteriorating and complex security situation along Tajikistan-Afghanistan border, four armed Afghan individuals crossed illegally from Afghanistan into Tajikistan.

This incident was accompanied by gunfire in the border region.
