Engine issue forces Malaysia Airlines flight to make emergency landing in Chennai

India: A Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Jeddah from Kuala Lumpur was diverted to Chennai on Monday after developing a technical issue involving one of its engines, prompting a full emergency declaration at the airport.

Flight MH156, carrying 186 people on board, made a safe emergency landing at Chennai airport. Officials said the problem involved Engine No. 2. The pilot alerted Chennai air traffic control and requested an emergency landing.

Emergency response arrangements were activated as a precaution, with ambulances, fire tenders and CISF personnel placed on standby. The aircraft landed safely. All passengers were evacuated and their baggage was removed from the plane. No injuries were reported.

Airport authorities confirmed that operations remained normal after the incident. Further assessment of the aircraft and the technical issue is being carried out by the airline and relevant technical teams. Aviation authorities are investigating the matter.
