Free public transport facility announced in Islamabad, Punjab

On the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, all public transport in Islamabad will be free of charge for the next 30 days, starting tomorrow.

Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi announced this in a post on X today.

He said the Ministry of Interior will bear the expenditure of 350 million rupees for this public relief initiative.

Meanwhile, Punjab government has also announced a comprehensive relief package for the people of the province in view of the ongoing global economic crisis.

This was announced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore today.

She said free public transport services will be provided across all cities of Punjab. Citizens will not be required to purchase tickets while travelling on the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus Service, Speedo Bus and Green Electric Buses.

A subsidy scheme has also been approved for motorcyclists. Under this initiative, every registered motorcycle owner will receive a subsidy of one hundred rupees on twenty litres of fuel.

Punjab government has also decided to extend financial support to safeguard agriculture, ensure food security, and assist farmers. A subsidy of 100 rupees per litre of diesel per acre has also been announced for cultivators.

Sindh government has also announced a subsidy package worth fifty-five billion rupees for motorcycle users, small growers and public transporters.

Addressing a news conference in Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced to provide two thousand rupees per month each to the registered bikes.

He said the amount will directly be transferred to the motorcycle owners’ accounts through an app prepared by the excise department.

He also announced subsidy of fifteen hundred rupees per acre to the registered three hundred thirty-six thousand small growers having twenty acres of the land.

The Sindh Chief Minister also announced a subsidy package for transporters to prevent an increase in transport fares.

He also announced an additional support of forty thousand rupees for the intra-city buses due to higher fuel consumption.
