Iconic PTV Actor Khalid Hafeez Khan, Known as ‘Mr. Shamim’ in ‘Guest House’, Passes Away

Veteran Pakistani television actor Khalid Hafeez Khan, fondly remembered as “Mr. Shamim” from the classic PTV comedy series Guest House, has passed away.

Khan, who portrayed the strict yet endearing owner of the fictional guest house, died on Tuesday.

The news of his demise sparked an outpouring of grief on social media, with many recalling his deadpan humor, signature expressions, and memorable lines that made Guest House a cultural staple of 1990s Pakistani television.

The sitcom humorously depicted the daily chaos and quirky interactions at a modest guest house run by Mr. and Mrs. Shamim, with guest characters adding fresh comedy each episode. It remains one of PTV’s most re-watched and quoted classics, celebrated for its light-hearted take on everyday Pakistani life.

Khalid Hafeez Khan appeared less frequently on screen after Guest House ended, as he noted in a 2020 interview with co-star Afzal Khan (Jan Rambo) that quality scripts and directors of that era had become rare.
