IMF Conditions Criticized; Govt Urged to Pursue Independent Economic Policies, PMML President

Lahore — President of the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML), Khalid Masood Sandhu, has termed the new conditions imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Pakistan as being against public interest, urging the government to make decisions in line with national interests and public sentiment.

He said that the IMF’s imposition of fresh conditions in exchange for a $1.2 billion tranche would place an additional burden on Pakistan’s already strained economy. He warned that continued demands for increases in gas and electricity prices would make life extremely difficult for the common man.

Khalid Masood Sandhu emphasized that the government must respect the sentiments of the Pakistani people and avoid taking decisions under external pressure that go against public interest. He called on the authorities to move away from reliance on IMF directives and instead adopt independent and sovereign economic policies.

He further stated that meaningful economic stability can only be achieved through structural reforms and a fair economic system, adding that reliance on interest-based mechanisms should be reconsidered to ensure long-term prosperity and sustainable growth.
