Iran Denies Refusing Islamabad Peace Talks, Accuses US Media of Misrepresentation

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday firmly rejected claims by US media that Tehran had refused to participate in peace talks hosted by Pakistan, stressing that Iran remains open to dialogue in Islamabad while insisting on a “conclusive and lasting” end to what it describes as an “illegal war” imposed on the country.

In a post on X, Araghchi stated: “Iran’s position is being misrepresented by U.S. media. We are deeply grateful to Pakistan for its efforts and have never refused to go to Islamabad. What we care about are the terms of a conclusive and lasting END to the illegal war that is imposed on us.” He concluded with the phrase “Pakistan Zindabad” (Long live Pakistan).

The clarification comes amid reports suggesting that Pakistan-mediated efforts to facilitate indirect or direct talks between Iran and the United States had faced setbacks, with some US outlets claiming Iran was unwilling to engage in Islamabad and had rejected certain demands.Iranian officials have emphasized that while they appreciate Pakistan’s mediation, any negotiations must address core demands for a permanent resolution rather than temporary ceasefires or unfavorable terms.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has dismissed earlier reports of stalled progress as “baseless,” with officials reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to continue facilitation efforts for regional peace. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed Araghchi’s statement, highlighting the strong brotherly ties between the two nations.

The statement has drawn positive reactions across Pakistan, with many users and officials expressing solidarity and praising Iran’s appreciation for Pakistan’s role. Rallies in Iran have also featured Pakistani flags, underscoring public support between the neighboring countries.
