ISLAMABAD (Dawn News) — September 04, 2026: The Islamabad administration has announced a four-day special polio vaccination campaign targeting 447,614 children across the federal capital from September 21 to 24.

The preparations for the campaign were reviewed during a meeting of the District Polio Eradication Committee chaired by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, according to reports.

Officials said the campaign will cover all 80 union councils of Islamabad, with vaccination teams tasked with reaching eligible children across the capital.

The meeting also reviewed the performance of the previous polio campaign, with officials examining areas where operational challenges had been reported. The review was aimed at identifying gaps and improving coordination ahead of the upcoming drive.

The World Health Organization’s Polio IHR Emergency Committee recently said Pakistan’s current momentum provides an opportunity to accelerate progress towards stopping wild poliovirus type 1 transmission, while noting that sustained operational implementation and access to all children remain critical.
