Karan Johar Challenges ‘Wrongful’ Termination of Punjabi Film Services Deal in Bombay High Court

Karan Johar’s production house, Dharma Productions Private Limited, has approached the Bombay High Court seeking to contest the abrupt termination of a services agreement tied to an upcoming Punjabi feature film.

In a petition filed under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, Dharma alleges that Dubai-based Humble Motion Pictures FZCO unlawfully ended the deal for the film titled Vyaah Kartaare Da.

The services agreement, executed on December 10, 2025, reportedly required Humble to provide consultancy, marketing, and related services for the project. It was also designed to help recover approximately Rs.7.25 crore in losses Dharma incurred from a prior collaboration with the same entity.

According to the plea, Dharma had actively promoted the film via its official social media channels. However, on January 21, Humble sent an email terminating the agreement, citing no longer wishing to avail itself of Dharma’s services.

Dharma claims this termination was wrongful and has sought interim relief to safeguard its contractual rights pending arbitration.

The matter came up before Justice Sandeep Marne and is scheduled for the next hearing on February 18.
