Massive Fire Breaks Out at Indian Army Camp Store in Uttarakhand’s Joshimath

A massive fire erupted on Friday in a store facility within an Indian Army camp located on Auli Road in Joshimath, Chamoli district. Thick plumes of black smoke billowed into the sky, visible from a distance, as strong winds in the hilly terrain hampered firefighting efforts.
Fire tenders and emergency response teams rushed to the scene promptly to contain the blaze. Army personnel are also assisting in operations to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Initial reports from sources confirm the incident involved a significant fire in the camp’s store area. While some unverified social media posts have claimed a “huge blast” or linked it to expired ammunition, official accounts and mainstream news outlets have not reported any explosion. No casualties or injuries have been confirmed so far.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Joshimath is a strategically important military station due to its proximity to the India-China border, hosting units such as the Garhwal Scouts.
Efforts to fully extinguish the fire are ongoing amid challenging weather conditions. Further updates are awaited from authorities.
