Mohsin Naqvi and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker meeting at the US Embassy

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker at the US Embassy on Monday to discuss bilateral relations, the latest regional developments, and security preparations for the anticipated second round of US-Iran negotiations in the Pakistani capital.

During the meeting, Naqvi briefed Baker on the “foolproof and comprehensive” security measures put in place for foreign dignitaries and participants. He emphasized that special arrangements had been made for all distinguished guests, with heightened protocols in Islamabad’s Diplomatic Enclave and Red Zone areas. Senior Pakistani officials, including FIA Director General Dr Usman Anwar and Islamabad police and administration heads, were also present.

The discussions come as Pakistan continues its role as a facilitator in the fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran. The first round of “Islamabad Talks” was held earlier in April 2026 without reaching a full agreement. President Donald Trump has since announced an extension of the two-week ceasefire, while expressing hope for renewed negotiations.

Naqvi also thanked the US for supporting the ceasefire extension and expressed optimism for positive outcomes in the upcoming talks. Baker appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in ensuring a secure environment and its constructive role in regional diplomacy.

On the same day, Naqvi held a separate meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, to review similar arrangements and the broader regional situation. Pakistani officials have stated that preparations, including security and logistics, are complete, though uncertainty remains over Iran’s final confirmation to participate.

The potential second round of talks is seen as a significant diplomatic effort aimed at stabilizing tensions in West Asia, with global attention focused on any progress or setbacks in the negotiations.
