Pakistan–Afghanistan Tensions Escalate; Nationwide High Alert Issued

Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have intensified following recent cross-border actions, prompting security agencies to place the country on high alert amid emerging threats on Afghan social media platforms.

According to security sources, online posts circulating from across the border have allegedly threatened attacks on sensitive locations in the federal capital, including the iconic Faisal Mosque and Centaurus Mall. In response, national security institutions have heightened vigilance across major cities.

Authorities have significantly strengthened security at public places considered potential soft targets, including NADRA offices, railway stations, bus terminals, and Ramadan and Chand Raat markets. Law enforcement agencies fear that militant elements may attempt to exploit crowded locations to carry out disruptive activities.

Meanwhile, a recent report by the United Nations has revealed the presence of an estimated 6,000 to 10,000 militants operating inside Afghanistan. The report also stated that the Taliban administration has struggled to take effective action against these elements.

Sources indicate that Pakistan remains prepared to respond decisively to any potential threat as part of its defensive strategy. Additional counterterrorism measures are reportedly under consideration to eliminate militant hideouts.
