Pakistan captain Fatima Sana fined 10% of match fee by ICC for Code of Conduct breach vs India

Pakistan women’s team captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup Group A clash against India in Dubai.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Sunday that Sana breached Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The article covers “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.”

The incident occurred after Sana dismissed India’s Shafali Verma. Verma, who had started aggressively, was caught and bowled by the Pakistan captain off her sixth ball. After taking the catch, Sana gestured towards the pavilion.

In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to Sana’s disciplinary record. It is her second offence within a 24-month period, taking her total demerit points to two. Her previous demerit point came during a T20I against Ireland in Dublin on 6 August 2025.

Sana admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, no formal hearing was required.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

India had earlier restricted Pakistan to just 55 runs before chasing the target comfortably to win by seven wickets. Sana was Pakistan’s standout performer with the ball, taking three wickets.

Despite the heavy defeat, Pakistan remain in contention in the Asia Cup and face Hong Kong, China, later today, with a win potentially securing a semi-final spot.
