Pakistan Weighs Fresh Administrative Curbs as Global Oil Prices Surge

images-15

The federal government is reportedly preparing to introduce a fresh set of administrative measures in response to rising international oil prices and concerns over fuel supplies, with a final decision expected within the next few days, according to informed sources.

The proposed measures are aimed at reducing fuel consumption and easing pressure on petroleum reserves. Among the options under consideration are a three-day workweek for selected government offices, expanded work-from-home arrangements, and reduced operating hours for markets and commercial centres.

Sources said the proposals come as international oil markets remain under pressure following heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, raising concerns over higher import costs and potential disruptions to fuel supplies. Global refining constraints and supply risks have pushed fuel prices higher in international markets, prompting oil-importing countries to review contingency plans.

Officials said consultations are underway with relevant ministries and provincial governments to assess the economic and administrative impact of the proposed restrictions before any formal notification is issued.

If approved, the measures would be implemented with exemptions for essential services, including healthcare, emergency response, utilities, and other critical sectors, to ensure uninterrupted public services.

No official announcement has yet been made, but sources indicated that the government’s final decision is likely to be announced within the coming days.
