Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir Meet US Delegation at Lake Lucerne Summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, met with a high-level US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the Bürgenstock resort near Lake Lucerne.

The encounter occurred on the sidelines of technical-level talks between the United States and Iran focused on implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a ceasefire and framework agreement facilitated with Pakistani and Qatari mediation. Pakistan has played a prominent role as an intermediary in efforts to promote regional stability in the Middle East.

Footage from the meeting shows Sharif and Munir greeting US officials, including Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The Pakistani leaders arrived in Switzerland earlier on Sunday for the multi-day discussions.

The Lake Lucerne Summit brings together US and Iranian representatives alongside mediators from Pakistan and Qatar.
