PIA Payment Delay Raises Concerns Over Privatization

The federal government has quietly stepped back from its earlier commitment on the payment timeline for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), as an outstanding amount of Rs83 billion remains unpaid, raising fresh concerns about the transparency and pace of the airline’s privatization process.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the delay has cast doubts over the seriousness of the ongoing deal, with critics questioning whether political or financial hurdles are slowing down the long-awaited privatization of the national flag carrier.

The government had previously indicated that payments related to the privatization would be cleared within a specific timeframe. However, officials now appear to be adopting a more cautious approach, avoiding firm deadlines amid mounting financial pressures.
