U.S. President Donald Trump has voiced strong support for Pakistan amid the ongoing border clashes with Afghanistan, declaring that the country is “doing terrifically well” and highlighting his personal admiration for its leadership.

In response to a reporter’s question, widely reported as coming from a Pakistani journalist, about whether the United States would seek to intervene in the escalating Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict, Trump emphasized his close ties with Islamabad.

He stated: “I would, but I get along with Pakistan, as you know, very well, very, very well. You have a great Prime Minister, you have a great general there, you have a great leader, two of the people that I really respect a lot. And I think that Pakistan is doing terrifically well, yeah.”

The remarks refer to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and likely Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff, whom Trump has previously described in glowing terms.

Trump’s statement aligns with his broader pattern of touting personal relationships and diplomatic successes, including past claims of averting larger conflicts in the region. It signals a clear reluctance for U.S. involvement against Pakistan, potentially complicating calls for American mediation.

The United Nations and regional powers continue urging de-escalation, with no immediate signs of U.S.-led intervention.
