Two Detained at Modi’s Mumbai Event Venue; One Had a Gun, Posed as PMO Official

India: Two men were detained on Tuesday from the premises of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), the venue of a high-profile event where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest.

One of the detained individuals, identified as 24-year-old Rohan Parekh, was allegedly posing as an official from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Security personnel recovered a forged PMO identity card from him during verification.

Parekh was accompanied by a man described as his bodyguard, from whom a gun was recovered. Both have been taken into custody.

Sources said the pair were moving around the event site when security checks exposed the fake credentials. The Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over further investigation into the matter.

The incident comes amid heightened security arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit to the city. Officials are examining how the individuals managed to access the venue area and the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the weapon.
