UAE-Led Operation Green Shield 2026 Nets 839 Arrests and $280 Million in Amazon Environmental Crime Crackdown

UAE authorities, leading a major international operation against environmental crimes, have arrested 839 suspects and seized assets worth $280 million across the Amazon Basin in a 17-day campaign.

According to Emirati media reports, Operation Green Shield 2026 targeted illegal activities threatening one of the world’s most vital ecosystems. The Amazon Basin, largely in Brazil, also extends into Peru, Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador. Authorities from these five countries cooperated closely with the UAE in the coordinated effort.

The operation resulted in the seizure of equipment and other assets linked to illegal environmental activities. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, described the campaign as significant progress in the fight against cross-border environmental crimes. He stressed the importance of stronger global cooperation to combat such offences.

The initiative forms part of the UAE’s broader Law Enforcement for Climate programme, launched in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Emirati leadership has reiterated its commitment to accelerating efforts against climate change and environmental degradation.
