Prateek Yadav, Younger Son of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Dies at 38 in Lucknow

India: Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late Samajwadi Party (SP) founder and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away at the age of 38 in Lucknow on Wednesday morning.
Prateek was rushed to Lucknow’s Civil Hospital around 5-6 AM after suddenly falling ill but was declared brought dead on arrival. He was the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s second wife, Sadhana Gupta, and the stepbrother of SP president Akhilesh Yadav. Prateek was married to BJP leader Aparna Yadav, Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission.
The provisional post-mortem report from King George’s Medical University indicated cardiorespiratory collapse due to massive pulmonary thromboembolism, a large blood clot in the lungs, as the cause of death. Prateek had a history of hypertension and lung-related issues. He had largely stayed away from active politics and focused on business, real estate, animal welfare, and fitness.
The news has sent shockwaves through Uttar Pradesh’s political circles. Leaders from both the Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party have expressed condolences, with some programs halted in respect. Akhilesh Yadav described his stepbrother as a “very good boy” who focused on health and business.
Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away in 2022. Prateek’s death marks another loss for the Yadav family, uniting political rivals in grief.
