President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood Passes Away

Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, the sitting President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), passed away today at the age of 79 while undergoing treatment at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.

The prominent Kashmiri politician, also known as Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, had been a key figure in AJK politics for decades. He previously served as Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir from July 1996 to July 2001 and assumed the presidency on August 25, 2021, following his election. Affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in AJK, he was born in Mirpur and came from a family with deep roots in the Kashmiri freedom movement.

Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry’s leadership focused on advocating for Kashmir’s resolution, promoting development in AJK, and strengthening ties within Pakistan. His contributions to public service and the Kashmiri cause will be remembered by many.
