Prince Charles, 71, tests positive for coronavirus

Prince Charles, Queen Elizabeth II’s son and the first in line to the British throne, has tested positive for coronavirus.

According to sources, the prince along with his wife has left London and is now self isolating in Balmoral Castle, Scotland. Although they are apart from each other at the residence.

Charles, 71, is displaying mild symptoms “but otherwise remains in good health”, a Clarence House spokesman said. Moreover, the Duchess of Cornwall, 72, has been tested but does not have the virus, he added.

The future king began showing symptoms on Monday flying to Scotland from his home at Highgrove, Glos.

Prince Charles is the first Royal Family member to be diagnosed with COVID-19. Apart from this, he falls within one of the highest risk categories given his age.

Buckingham Palace said the Queen last saw the prince on 12 March, but also “remains in good health”. The Queen “is following all the appropriate advice with regard to her welfare,” the palace added. The queen, 92, is currently staying at Windsor castle with Prince Philip, 98.

Prince Charles met with Prince Albert of Monaco earlier this month. Albert tested positive just nine days after he sat opposite the Prince of Wales in London.

According to latest Department of Health figures, there are now more than 8,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK. Although the actual number is likely to be far higher. Around 422 of those patients have lost their lives.
