Prominent Pakistani Scholar Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idris Martyred in Targeted Attack
Renowned Islamic scholar and Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idris was martyred in a brazen assassination on Tuesday while traveling to deliver lectures on Hadith at Darul Uloom Utmanzai.
According to initial reports, unknown gunmen opened fire on Maulana Idris in the Atmanzai area of Charsadda district. He was rushed to DHQ Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Two of his guards were also injured in the attack.
Maulana Muhammad Idris, a highly respected figure in religious and academic circles, served as Sheikh-ul-Hadith and a senior instructor of advanced Hadith studies. Born in 1961 in Tarangzai, Charsadda, he taught at several prominent seminaries including Darul Uloom Naumania and held leadership positions in Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. He was known for his deep scholarship in Hadith, Tafseer, and Islamic jurisprudence, with decades of experience teaching Sahih Bukhari and other core texts.
Hundreds of mourners gathered at the hospital upon news of his death, sparking protests in the area with reports of the Tangi Road being blocked by agitated locals.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, describing it as a targeted killing by unidentified assailants. No group has yet claimed responsibility.
The assassination has sent shockwaves through Pakistan’s religious scholarly community, with tributes pouring in for the late Maulana’s contributions to Islamic education.
