Punjab Governor to provide clean drinking water to 8m people

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar along with various NGOs has announced to provide clean drinking water to more than 8 million people of Punjab.

The Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority is also ready to run sewerage system and rehabilitate the closed filtration plants of WASA. The work will start on them as soon as the government allocates the fund.
He stated this while addressing a Press conference at Governor’s House Lahore along with Abe-Pak-Authority Chairman Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, Chief Executive Punjab Abe-Pak-Authority Syed Zahid Aziz and representatives of welfare organizations. Secretary to Governor Punjab Omar Saeed and Principal Secretary Dr Rashid Mansoor were also present on the occasion.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that Punjab Abe-Pak-Authority in collaboration with welfare organizations has started work on the project of installing clean drinking water filtration plants and rehabilitation of closed filtration plants in Punjab under which clean drinking water would be provided to people in various areas of Punjab Province including Lahore with the collaboration of various welfare organizations including Sarwar Foundation, Islamic Aid, Muslim Hands, Water Aid, UNICEF, Server Foundation, Brothers, Awareness, Tourist Welfare International Trust, Aleem Khan Foundation, ANT, Sahar Foundation, Yves Apparel, Customs Care Society and Changa Pani .
While answering a question, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that every penny of the people is being fully protected in the Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority and no one will be allowed to embezzle even a single rupee. He said that all staff in Abe Pak Authority has been hired on merit. He said that it was a challenging task and Prime Minister Imran Khan, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and representatives from other government departments are on the same page for providing clean drinking water to the people.
Governor Punjab said that he floated the idea of handing over the filtration plants of local governments including WASA in Punjab to Punjab Abe Pak Authority in a meeting with the Prime Minister, adding that as soon as the government will provide funds for them, we will immediately start work on the rehabilitation of these filtration plants. He said that we have the best team of Punjab Abe-Pak-Authority, adding that If the government provides funds, we can also fix the sewerage system in the province.
Responding to political questions, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar emphasized on strengthening of democracy within Pakistan’s political parties, saying that Pakistan Tehrik i Insaf has the highest level of democracy in comparison with other political parties in which dissenting views of opposition parties are also heard, adding that instead of wasting their time in street protests against the government, they should sit with the government on the issue of electoral reforms for transparent elections in the country.
Governor Punjab further said that the United States has finally acknowledged that the Afghan war was its wrong decision but now it is the responsibility of all including the United States to play their role for peace and stability in Afghanistan. He said that Pakistan has already played a positive role for establishment of peace in Afghanistan and Pakistan will continue to work for peace.
