Rapid Contacts Underway to Reopen Strait of Hormuz; Positive Progress Claimed by Arab TV

Diplomatic contacts aimed at fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz have accelerated, with positive progress reported in ongoing talks, according to claims by Arab television.

An Arab TV channel asserted that preparations are under way for the complete reopening of the strategic waterway, with an announcement possibly expected in the coming hours or on Wednesday.

The development follows remarks by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who said an agreement to restore unimpeded commercial shipping through the strait and return the situation to more normal levels could be reached by today or tomorrow. In a televised interview, Bessent noted that discussions with Tehran focus on freedom of movement for all commercial vessels.

Such a deal would facilitate not only the flow of crude oil but also fertilizers, refined products, and industrial gases. It would also allow hundreds of ships currently stranded in the Persian Gulf to exit, potentially easing global prices and providing significant market relief.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for roughly a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, has faced severe disruptions amid regional tensions. Mediators, including Qatar, Pakistan, and Oman, have been actively engaged in bridging gaps between the parties.

Officials from multiple sides have described the talks as being in advanced or progressive stages, with draft language circulating, though no final agreement has been announced.
