Russian opposition leader poisoned
Moscow, 20th August: A fierce opposition leader has been poisoned and has been reportedly taken to hospital.
According to Reuters, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was admitted to a hospital in Siberia on Thursday after suffering from symptoms of what his spokeswoman called poisoning after his aircraft made an emergency landing.

Navalny, 44, is unconscious and is in intensive care after he started feeling unwell on a flight returning to Moscow, the capital, from the Siberian city of Tomsk, said Kira Yarmysh, the spokeswoman.
After the plane landed in Omsk, Navalny was taken to hospital with suspected poisoning, she added on social media, such as Twitter and Telegram.

“We assume that Alexei was poisoned with something mixed with his tea,” she said. “That’s the only thing he drank this morning.”
According to media reports, Alexei Navalny has been admitted to the Omsk city hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.

According to local media, Alexei is considered one of the fiercest opponents of Russian President Putin and played a key role in the fight against corruption in Russia. He was arrested and jailed for 15 days for protesting against alleged rigging in the 2011 elections.
He was also jailed in 2013 on charges of forgery when he announced his candidacy for the 2018 presidential election but was barred from running in the election due to convictions in forgery cases.
