Salman Khan Moves Delhi High Court to Halt Release of ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan on Friday approached the Delhi High Court seeking an urgent stay on the production, promotion, and release of the upcoming film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, alleging it violates his personality rights and falsely portrays him with underworld connections.

The court, presided over by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, agreed to hear the matter on an urgent basis and issued notices to the film’s producer Amit Jani, Jani FireFox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, Akshay Pandey, and others. The matter has been listed for further hearing on June 19, when the court will consider the interim injunction application.

Khan’s counsel argued that the film was made without his consent and uses his likeness, including a character wearing a bracelet similar to one associated with the actor. The lawyer highlighted four past FIRs against Khan, in three of which he has been acquitted, with one appeal pending, and expressed concern that the film could prejudice ongoing legal matters and defame him.

The plea notes that promotional material, including a poster released on May 29 and a trailer dropped on Friday, ahead of its scheduled June 20 release, exploits Khan’s image and references the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. Khan is seeking a permanent and ad-interim injunction to restrain the makers from any further production, distribution, exhibition, or streaming of the film and its related content.

The film is reportedly inspired by events surrounding the blackbuck hunting incident involving Khan, though producers have previously claimed it focuses on wildlife conservation efforts by the Bishnoi community rather than targeting any individual.

This is the latest development in the ongoing dispute, which escalated after Khan’s legal team sent a prior notice to the makers. The Delhi High Court will now examine the balance between creative freedom and personality/publicity rights.
