Riyadh: Two days before the start of Hajj, Saudi Arabia arrested more than 120 people on charges of buying and supplying fake Coronavirus vaccines and test certificates.
According to a report, Saudi Arabia’s state-run news agency, SPA News, has said that the suspects included nine health ministry officials, all of whom have been convicted.
It should be noted that this year, 60,000 Saudis with COVID Vaccination Certificate will perform Hajj. This is the second time that Hajj is being conducted on a limited scale.
The accused in the case had allegedly resorted to social media to publicize their services.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, these services include changing the infection state, changing the vaccination status, and showing one dose of the vaccine to two doses.
The fraud involved 21 people, including 9 Saudi nationals and 12 residents, who provided illegal services to 76 Saudi nationals and 16 residents.
Earlier in July, Saudi officials announced that several people, including two health ministry officials, had been arrested in a similar conspiracy to illegally tamper with coronavirus data.
A criminal investigation was launched but the exact number of the accused was not disclosed. According to the Saudi Ministry of Health, more than 21 million doses of the corona vaccine have been administered to 34 million people in the Kingdom so far.
In the last 24 hours, 1,165 corona cases have been reported in the Gulf, and 15 patients have died. So far, 56,125 corona cases and 8,035 deaths have been reported in the country.
In Saudi Arabia, up to August, only vaccinated people are allowed to visit government buildings, educational institutions, or recreational areas and use public transport.
Similarly, in the public and private sectors, only vaccinated workers are allowed to return to their workplaces.
